The water recycling scheme foreseen in the REWATCH project includes a pretreatment aimed at removing suspended particles, turbidity and organic matter from the petrochemical wastewater. This pretreatment is based on the ACTIFLO® technology, developed by Veolia, a high rate compact water clarification process in which water is flocculated with microsand, which enhances the formation of robust flocks and acts as ballast, significantly increasing their settling velocity. This innovative technology results with clarifier designs with very short retention times, high rates and extremely compact system footprints.

To date, several experiments at bench-scale have been performed in Fundació CTM Centre Tecnològic, in order to select the best coagulant, flocculant and their doses to treat wastewater generated in the petrochemical industry.
